If projects are not based on a good understanding of local conditions, they can have a negative impact on people's safety. Therefore, our design and implementation of responses is conflict sensitive and based on a detailed assessment of local conditions. By conducting needs assessments before initiating interventions, DDG will obtain good understanding of local conditions which enable us to tailor responses to the specific needs of the target communities.
These needs assessment are both implemented on an overall national level as well as more thoroughly in target communities.
“On the right is a as an example a link for a joint DDG and Small Arms Survey publication on the findings from a nation-wide assessment of community safety and small arms in Somaliland. You will also find a short paper on DDG’s analysis of the main safety and security problems in Somaliland and Somalia based on this assessment along with DDG’s recommendations and suggested interventions to address these problems.”
