  • Community safety programme in SomalilandIn Somalia's northwest corner sits the unrecognized republic of Somaliland. As war rages throughout the rest of the country, Somaliland enjoys a fragile level of stability. While stability levels exceed those of neighbouring areas, resource scarcity, clan conflict and interpersonal disputes contribute to high levels of armed violence. Small Arms & Light Weapons (SALW) and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) remain pervasive. Recognising the ongoing struggle for human security, DDG has implemented a dynamic, multi-dimensional community safety programme that aims to reduce armed violence.
  • Conflict Management EducationAs part of the effort to enhance overall community safety, DDG provides conflict management education to community members. These grass roots trainings aim to enable the peaceful settlement of minor conflicts, in order to minimize the risk of violence escalation.
  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Mine Risk EducationAfter years of armed conflict unexploded and stock piled mines, grenades, mortars and other unexploded remants of war continue to impose safety risks among the population in certain parts of East Africa.
  • Explosive Ordnance disposal in UgandaAfter twenty-two years of civil war, the former battlegrounds of northern Uganda remain littered with with deadly remants of war. Eaxh year, landmines and UXO kill or injure dozens throughout the North. In cooperation with DDG the Uganda Mine Action Center operates throughout the region clearing unexploded ordinance and landmines and providing mine risk education.
  • Mine Risk EducationTwenty-two years of civil war in northern Uganda left the region strewn with landmines and unexploded ordnance. Children are often tasked with water and firewood collection, tasks that increase their exposure to mines and UXO. To address these risks, the Danish Demining Group conducts daily mine risk education training throughout the region.
  • firearms safety programming in Somalia With small arms and light weapons prevalent in many parts of East Africa, the Danish Demining Group acknowledges these items as common threats to human security. To combat these risks DDG provides firearms safety education to firearm owners in order to secure safe behaviour when handling and storing firearms.

  • Building community capacityIn order to address wide ranging safety concerns, DDG brings together community members to identify and develop solutions to their safety neeeds. DDG trains and  builds the capacity of existing community management structures, in order to enable them to improve their safety and security situation.

  • Danish Demining Group in UgandaAfter more than 20 years of brutal war in Northern Uganda peace is finally settling over the land. In the wake of the war hundreds of thousands of displaced people have returned to their homes, only to find them littered with grenades, RPGs, landmines and other explosive remnants of war. In Ugandas far north the Uganda Mine Action Center, a project supported by DDG and UNDP, works tirelessly to clear large mine fields in a remote and mountainous area.
  • DDG in SudanFor more than twenty years, Sudan was torn apart by a civil war between the north and the south. An agreement signed in 2005 ended major hostilities between the warring fractions. The fighting left Southern Sudan littered with Explosive Remnants of War. Today, Danish Demining Group clears cluster weapons and other Unexploded Ordinance from former battlegrounds throughout the south.
