Somalia at a turning point

23.09.11

20 NGOs involved in humanitarian assistance to Somalia sign a petition calling for an all-inclusive dialogue to save lives in Somalia. The Danish Refugee Council is one of the NGOs advocating for improved access to victims of civil war and famine in Somalia.

"The humanitarian crisis in Somalia and the region is growing rapidly putting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people at risk. Somalia is at a turning point and there is an immediate need to step up life-saving assistance. To be able to do this, we as providers of emergency aid, appeal to all parties to respect the need for improved access to people in need of relief aid. There is no time to lose if we want to address the deteriorated situation in Somalia and to mitigate the consequences of continued drought and isolation," says Ann Mary Olsen, head of the Danish Refugee Council’s International Department.

The statement ‘NGOs call for all-inclusive dialogue to save lives in Somalia’ is released coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly and the Somalia Mini Summit this week.
