The Response: Humanitarian Mine Action

Addressing the problem of landmines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) requires a number of different humanitarian mine action methodologies and approaches. The Danish Demining Group (DDG) uses a combination of the methods listed below to tackle the problem:

  • Non-technical Survey
  • Technical Survey
  • Mine Clearance
  • Battle Area Clearance
  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal
  • Mine/ERW Risk Education
  • Impact Monitoring

DDG uses a dynamic approach in each of the countries it works in and responds to the specific mine or ERW problem in a country by creating a multi-faceted, customised “toolbox” which combines context-appropriate activities and methods together.
